Summer Gives Time for More Fantasy Artwork and Art Prints

Hey! I just wanted to give you a short middle of summer update on what I've been up to lately. As I write this I'm on a few days vacation with my family in wonderful Dýrafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland. My husbands father is from there and although It's quite a long drive from where we live near the capital, we try to go there regularly. It is always a treat for all of us and as for me, as a nature and animal nerd, I always come away rested and highly inspired for my next fantastic worlds and creatures.

Time for a New Piece of Fantasy Artwork

As I talked about in my last newsletter on Squishy, the year 2025 has not seen a lot of new artwork on my drawing table. However, now I've been able to use more time during the summer for creating more fantasy art and a couple of weeks ago I finished this sunny piece of work.

☀️The Sun, older than everything ☀️

Print version, right, and original painting, left. Inks, black pastels, gouache and minor digital touchups.

Very happy with how my Epson p900 is handling the warm, dark colours 🖨

A photograph of a warm yellow and brown sheet of printed illustration in inks and black pastels, lying on a wooden table. The illustration shows a round face sitting in the middle of a brownish yellow background, surrounded by a dark brown frame. It's the Sun, with twirling swirls around it, looking like hair or rays of sunshine. Below the sun there lies a tight cluster of dark blueish green and round shaped clouds, some with vaguely shaped faces.

I'm not sure what to call it but it started as a sketch last year and I wanted to experiment with the same technique as I used on Squishy, with inks, black pastels, gouache and a couple of digital touchups. It comes out gorgeously from my printer, Epson Surecolor 900. The sun is always an interesting theme for artwork and I've made a few pieces where she and the clouds play a big role. I'd love to hear what you think!

After this Summer, what's next?

As for my goals, I've been thinking a lot the past weeks about next steps on my artistic journey. I'm considering changing things up in my creative path but still have some more thinking to doo. I will talk more about that later.
